Address Change Notifications:
- The Post Office
- Magazines subscriptions
- Book Clubs
- The IRS
- Insurance Companies
- Credit Card Companies
- Friends
- Department of Motor Vehicles
- Re-register to vote in your new location
Financial Matters:
- Transfer homeowner’s insurance policy
- Transfer all charge accounts
- Pay local and city taxes
- Establish credit in new location
- Transfer funds to a new bank
- Have W-2 (or other tax forms) forwarded
- Collect utility deposits
- Transfer stocks and bonds
Reminder to Pick Up:
- Loaned money
- Loaned books
- Appliances being repaired
- Dry cleaning
- Loaned tools
- Watches at jewelers
- Clothes in gym lockers
- Shoes at shoemakers
Stop and Start Items:
- Gas and electricity
- Water
- Telephone
- Garbage
- Laundry or diaper service
- Newspaper

- Cable T.V./satellite service
In Your Spare Time:
- Service your car
- Make motel reservations for during your move
- Sell and/or resign club memberships
For your Children:
- Collect School Records
- Collect Medical and Dental Records
For your Pets:
- Veterinary needs and vaccinations
- Find a company that specializes in moving pets
- If you plan to take your pets with you, remember to keep their needs, such as food, from being packed with the truck
As Moving Day Approaches:
- Make arrangements for your pets
- Set aside clothes for trip
- Disposed of all items that cannot be moved
- Remove oil and fuel from power equipment (e.g. lawn mowers)
- Have a garage sale and give away old clothes
- Pack suitcases
- Make sure to bring along your address book
Pack a starter carton for your new home with:
- Telephones
- Light bulbs
- Soap, Towels, Toilet Paper
- Snacks, Beverages, can opener
- Tool kit and flashlight
- Plates, cups, cutlery etc.
On Moving Day:
- Eat a hearty breakfast
- Have a friend watch your children at their home
- Show movers all rooms and what items should be moved and what items should not
- Make final walkthrough
- Take along baby needs
- Shut off gas and water valves
- Ask mover for charges
- Keep phone connected for that day
